Engineering Coherence

Engineering coherence means creating the mastery of the necessary qualification. An engineer starts their work when there is a "request": a description of the problems that the mastery of the required qualification should solve, a description of the resources that the customer is willing to allocate for the development of mastery. In addition, it is desirable to compile a description of the user, how and under what conditions (context) the mastery will be used. This will allow the engineer to immediately consider important objects for the customer and user in creating the required qualification mastery.

Mastery is created through regular self-learning and training of oneself and other agents, as well as constant application/practice. Learning allows you to start a cycle of changes/problem-solving with coherence: you actively immerse yourself in new worldviews simultaneously, take the first steps to change old, familiar automatisms. While learning with a teacher or under the guidance of a mentor, you can also receive feedback on mistakes even faster.

But just learning is not enough, you also need to constantly apply the mastery (or individual skill) both during and after learning. For this purpose, attention needs to be specially paid to "implementation," i.e. the continuous application of new practices in different contexts. Initially, you can choose simpler practices and objects. For example, choosing the Pomodoro technique, which allows you to alternate focused work and breaks throughout the day. The Pomodoro technique is relatively easy to implement, it helps maintain focus throughout the day, finish work products faster, and feel less tired by evening. Using the Pomodoro technique, you learn to "hyper-focus" effortlessly.

Next, you can advance the training of the "hyper-focus" skill or radical result-focused training. For example, choosing a sprint timeframe and prioritizing tasks in a queue based on deadlines and resources, as well as the need to schedule quality leisure time weekly. Then, daily adjust the schedule to track the completion of individual tasks, the entire planned queue (task pool management), and the quality of weekly leisure time. As you habituate this skill at this level, you can do the same with a project pool and vacation: you will need to alternate periods of focused work and rest, just that these periods will be longer.

Once you've mastered the skill at this scale, you can move on to longer time scales (lifestyle, etc.) and develop quality result-focused training in a more complex context. Here, you will need to think about what you want from life in the long run, what problems you want to solve not only for yourself but also for others, and plan the path to achieve the result, taking into account the time for rest as well as the time for the necessary preparation to achieve the desired result.

If you are having difficulties with focus throughout the day, for example, because you work in a very noisy environment, you can first introduce Pomodoro (or focus through calendar) in simpler conditions. For example, allocate time slots for learning during quiet calm hours and practice maintaining focus using Pomodoro, or without it but consistently focus on acquiring knowledge during these concentrated hours. Then progressively complicate the context: try to allocate at least 1-2 Pomodoros/sessions (1 hour) during the workday for focused work, and during this time, move to a less noisy place (e.g., a meeting room) or wear noise-canceling headphones. Then extend periods of focused work during the day (remembering to alternate them with breaks) until the skill of working focused, resting focused, and communicating focused starts to come easily based on inner feelings.

When you achieve the desired result and it comes effortlessly to you, without extra effort, it means that you have truly acquired the ability to do something (mastered the skill). Psychologists say that the skill has been internalized - it has moved to the internal plane and become an integral part of your life. When you feel this about any skill, be sure to congratulate yourself: you have acquired a skill! And almost certainly have brought it to a certain automatism.
